New PiPA Sites for Summer 2018

With the weather heating up and the summer holidays just around the corner there’s no better time to add 2 new inclusive sites to our PiPA Map!  West Bay, Bridport is our newest Destination PiPA and with it’s great facilities and close proximity to the beach will be a must visit this summer.  Warley Playing Fields Play Park, our newest Community PiPA, is set to open later this summer providing a fantastic inclusive provision to the local community.

West Bay Play Area, Bridport, DT6 4EH – Destination PiPA

Designed for everyone from 0 – 99 West Bay Play Area provides an excellent day out location complete with accessible facilities on site and ample parking.  The unique play area has been designed to reflect its setting on the Jurassic Coast and the area’s history of rope making.  The purpose-built design is based on a ship wrecked on the rocks and it’s this along with the site’s proximity to the beach, zoned play layout and wide range of play activities that makes this a fantastic inclusive playground which can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Travel

West Bay Play Area is located 2 miles from the centre of Bridport, an approximate 30 minute walk or 10 minute drive.  Alternatively, buses C1 or X53 will take you from the town centre to the play area within 15-20 minutes. 

The closest train stations to Bridport are:

  • Maiden Newton (12 miles) providing links between Gloucester and Weymouth
  • Crewkerne (12 miles) providing links between London Waterloo and Exeter
  • Axminster (13 miles) providing services between London Waterloo and Exeter

West Bay Play Area is easily accessible from the A35 and provides a large car park with direct access to the play space with 12 accessible spaces and mini bus parking areas.

Refreshments and Facilities 

There is a café on site, within 500m of the play area.  Opening times vary throughout the year but are kept up to date on their website here.

Spring Summer Opening Hours

Monday – Saturday 10am – 5pm

Sunday 9am – 5pm

The play area is also located close to nearby shops and the beach and harbour area. 

Accessible public toilets are available 24 hours a day within the car park area and can be accessed by Radar Key. 

The Play Area 

Created through a partnership between Bridport Town Council and local charity BYPAT (Bridport Young Persons Action Trust) West Bay Play Area provides a space that enables all children (regardless of age or ability!) to play and enjoy themselves together.

  • Tactile play elements situated throughout which can be accessed from a seated and standing position

  • Compact gravel paths throughout the space allowing direct access to the majority of equipment

 

*COMING SOON* Warley Playing Fields, Brentwood, Essex, CM13 3AU – Community PiPA

Warley Play Area is situated within Warley Playing Fields, with the entire site extending over 114,170m².  As well as the inclusive play space Warley Playing Fields provides a fantastic natural, open space for the whole family to enjoy with sports pitches and course and a Multi-Use Games Area available for everyone to use. 

Travel

Warley Playing Fields is located approximately 1 mile from Brentwood Train Station, a distance which takes approximately 20-25 minutes to walk, and 1.5 miles from the centre of Brentwood, an approximate 30-35 minute walk. 

Alternatively, the no. 9 and 808 buses run from both the centre of Brentwood and the train station to the park entrance, with the journey taking around 10 minutes. 

Brentwood Train Station is on the Great Eastern Main Line and provides a direct link to London Liverpool Street, a journey which takes 40 minutes.  The station’s platforms at Brentwood are accessible by lift or step free access via the station carpark and National Key Toilets are located on platform 4. 

Warley Playing Fields are located within close proximity to both the M25, A12 and A172, accessed by either Junction 28 or 29. 

There is on street parking located on the other side o the main road to the park, less than 20m away, as well as on street parking throughout the surrounding area.  There are currently no accessible parking spaces available however these are planned by the council to be installed shortly. 

Refreshments and Facilities

There are no refreshment or toilet / changing facilities on site.  There is a small supermarket located an 11 minute walk (2 minute drive) away from the park and a wide range of outlets and facilities available in Brentwood itself. 

The Play Area

The play area has been designed to provide an inclusive, imaginative and physically challenging space for children of all ages and abilities which inspires, excites, challenges and stimulates all children’s imaginations.

  • Wheelchair accessible Wheelspin roundabout
  • Large variety of swings including; Hags Tango swing seat, Inclusive Play’s Basket and Sit Up Swing as well as traditional flat and cradle options
  • Tarmac paths in excess of 1.2m wide throughout site provides access to all areas of equipment, matta surfacing ensures year round access, with no grass or loose material used under any of the equipment
